A Letter from Innovation Senior Management’s Founder & CEO, Pilar Carvajal (Dec 14)
December 14, 2020
Dear Residents, Family & Team Members,
The prospect of a COVID vaccine being in place by end of year is a reality. We are expecting and planning for a first wave of vaccines to arrive in senior living communities on or about December 15. As the CEO of Innovation Senior Living, I will be first in line to get my vaccine to help motivate our staff and residents to get us to full vaccination (both doses) by the end of January 2021. But this will prove challenging.
Despite the promise of an end to the pandemic, staff is not embracing the vaccine as readily as public health planners had hoped. There is a reluctance to get vaccinated out of fear, side effects or general mistrust. We have ramped up our education campaigns to defeat the skepticism surrounding the vaccine, particularly among staff.
We are promoting messages like: It’s safe. It’s the responsible thing to do. It’s your civic duty. When CVS or Walgreens schedules our on-site clinic date, we want to be ready. The vaccine definitely marks the beginning of the end. It is a powerful tool in the fight to defeat the pandemic. As we look to get full vaccinations in our communities, we will look to create the safest places for residents to live and staff to work.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.
